How employers’ association boss, Timothy Olawale, died in Abuja hospital

By News Desk

The Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) Director-General, Timothy Olawale, has been confirmed to have died at a hospital in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja after a brief illness.

As gathered, the NECA boss had been on admission at the hospital (name withheld) to get medical care for an ailment before the sickness was said to have aggravated and he passed on.

The NECA director-general, who could not participate in the country’s 61st Independence anniversary yesterday, was later pronounced dead by the medical officials at the hospital hours after the day’s celebration.

Confirming the death on Saturday, the association, through a statement released by its media department in Lagos, described Olawale’s death as a rude shock.

NECA added that the association was already in contact with the family and that more information would be communicated in due course.

The statement reads in part: “It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Timothy Olawale, our Director-General, which occurred on Oct. 1 2021 at a hospital in Abuja.

“He is survived by his wife, children, and other relatives; we pray the good Lord to grant his family and us all, the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss,’’ it stated.

Olawale, before his death, was confirmed as the substantive Director-General of NECA in January 2019, after six months in an acting capacity.

It would be recalled that the deceased succeeded Segun Oshinowo, who retired in December 2018 after serving the association for 19 years.
