A swift response by federal and territorial fire authorities averted major losses after a fire sparked by a lithium solar inverter swept through a house at Suncity Estate, Abuja.
The Federal Fire Service said coordinated firefighting efforts successfully protected properties valued at about ₦700 million, confirming that no lives were lost during the operation despite the intensity of the blaze.
In a statement issued yesterday, National Public Relations Officer and Head of Corporate Services, Paul Abraham, said personnel from multiple units were deployed, describing the operation as a joint effort that demonstrated effective inter-agency cooperation during emergencies.
According to the service, the incident occurred at Suncity Estate in Galadima, Abuja, and was triggered by a lithium solar inverter system. Fire crews worked for about an hour before fully bringing the situation under control.
Abraham said residents’ early notification played a decisive role in limiting damage, noting that firefighters from the RED HOUSE Federal Fire Headquarters, led by DSF Bolaji; the Apo Station team, led by DSF Ogwuche; and the FCT Fire Service were mobilized to extinguish the flames.
“Thanks to the prompt alert from residents, fire officers managed to bring the blaze under control after an hour-long operation. Properties worth approximately ₦700 million were saved, and thankfully, no casualties were reported,” he said.
The service urged the public to prioritise safety when installing solar inverter systems, advising strict adherence to professional standards.
“Only qualified technicians should be employed, and systems must be well-ventilated and regularly checked to prevent overheating and potential fire hazards,” the statement added.
