Herdsmen kill seven villagers in Kogi

At least seven people have reportedly been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Ejule Ojebe community, Ibaji Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident, which occurred on February 7, has heightened tension and fear in the community, residents said on Monday.

A community source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the herders had been peacefully accommodated earlier this year, but relations soured following recent allegations.

“They accused us of missing cows, and suddenly armed men appeared, shooting everywhere,” the resident said. “Seven people were killed instantly, and many others were injured.”

The source added that fear continues to grip the area, with villagers wary of further attacks. “There is serious tension now. People are scared because nobody knows if they will survive the next attack,” the resident said, noting that locals no longer feel safe seeing herdsmen nearby.

As of the time of filing this report, police and state authorities had not publicly confirmed any arrests. Residents are calling for urgent security intervention to prevent further loss of lives.
