The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday approved N100 billion for the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan in Nigeria.
National Livestock Transformation Plan was introduced by the Federal Government after the outcry that trailed the RUGA plan.
Chairman of the subcommittee on farmer herders crisis, Governor of Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi, told newsmen at end of the NEC meeting chaired by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, that it was agreed that the Federal Government would provide 80 percent of the fund while participating states would support with 20 billion naira and provision of lands for implementation of the programme.
Umahi reiterated that states were free to use any animal of their choice in the implementation of the programme, saying, a date for the effective take-off of the programme will be decided at its October meeting.
