Armed men attacked a village in Karare District, Rimi Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing a herder and rustling an unspecified number of livestock worth millions of naira.
The attack reportedly occurred at two separate camps on the outskirts of Kauyen Gabas Village, where the assailants opened fire, killing one person before making off with several cows in the middle of the night.
It was learned that the attackers invaded the community while residents were asleep and fled the scene after the raid, with no immediate resistance from security agencies.
According to a reliable source who spoke to reporters on Monday, the incident, which occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on December 20, has heightened anxiety among residents already burdened by repeated attacks on vulnerable pastoralists and their herds.
“Troops and other security forces from neighbouring areas have blocked anticipated exit routes, and cordon-and-search operations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects and recover the rustled animals,” the source added.
Consequently, residents of the affected communities have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies as efforts continue to restore safety and prevent further violence.
