Gunmen kill 35 residents in Kwara

A group of Gunmen has killed at least 35 residents following an attack on two community in Kwara State.

The insurgents were said to have invaded the areas heavily armed after which the victims were shot, and dozens of others still missing as the residents fled to escape from the attack.

A lawmaker in the area from Kaiama local government, Saidu Ahmed, stated that the gunmen, yesterday, stormed the village and set homes and shops ablaze.

“I’m on my way to Woro along with soldiers from Ilorin. The Emir is safe, and other troops are pursuing the attackers,” Ahmed said, adding that the situation remains tense.

Informations held that the gang withdrew temporarily after spotting an aircraft overhead, but added that they may still be in the area and could attempt another raid once the pressure from security forces eases.

The residents were, however, urged to remain calm, with assurances that security forces are stepping up patrols and investigative efforts to bring the attackers to justice.

The Command also reassured its commitment to ensuring safety of lives and properties urging the residents to provide necessary details in helping the police in the fight against terrorism in the area.
