A group of unknown gunmen have been reported to have abducted a senior lecturer at Bingham University, Abuja, Musa Dankyau, after attacking his residence in Plateau state.
The varsity don was reportedly taken at gunpoint by armed assailants who stormed his residence late at night and whisked him away to an unknown location.
The attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. at SA Estate, located along Guratopp Road in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Eyewitness said the assailants broke into the compound with force and seized Dankyau without any resistance from security agencies before taking him to an unknown destination.
“Efforts are currently underway involving both local vigilantes and security agencies to secure the safe release of the professor and arrest the perpetrators responsible for the abduction,” a source confirmed to The Guild.
The source, meanwhile, disclosed that following the don’s abduction, security operatives, including local vigilante groups, have launched a coordinated manhunt track down the perpetrators and rescue the abducted man.
The incident has triggered outrage and concern among residents, with many decrying the increasing frequency of kidnappings targeting university professors, vice-chancellors, and other intellectuals.
This fresh incident adds to the growing list of abductions targeting university scholars across the country.
So far, the state police command is yet to provide additional details on the kidnappers’ identities or possible motives, but investigations are said to be ongoing to track them down.
