A Russian General, Vladimirm Alekseyev, has been injured by a group of unidentified gunmen and rushed to the hospital following severe injuries encountered in the incident.
Alekseyev, who holds a senior designation in Russia’s general staff, was shot in an apartment building by the armed men several times in what appeared to be an assasination attempt before fleeing the scene in wounds and blood gushing out of his body.
Military officials said that the attack which happened on Friday in Moscow is under investigation in the quest to apprehend the perpetrators of the act and bring them to justice.
”Investigative actions and operational search measures are being carried out to identify the person or persons involved in committing the crime,” the Investigative Committee spokesperson, Svetlana Petrenko, said.
Alekseyev is the first deputy chief of the Russian general staff. He led intelligence operations during the Russian intervention in Syria in support of the ousted country leader, Bashar al-Assad.
He was also dispatched to negotiate with Wagner chief, Yevgeny Prigozhin, during his attempted mutiny against the Russian military top brass in 2023.
