Gunmen behead Police officer In Akwa Ibom

Residents of Akwa Ibom State have been enveloped by fears after some yet-to-be-identified gunmen beheaded a police officer known as Inspector Osang.

Osang was said to have been beheaded when the gunmen stormed his apartment on a lane connecting Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb of Uyo, the state capital.

It was learnt that the invasion of the police officer’s apartment occurred yesterday at about 8.30 p.m, after he returned from the station were he was deployed.

An eyewitness residing inside the community revealed that the gunmen gained entrance into the deceased’s compound and began firing randomly to scare away residents and passersby.

It was gathered that the murder of the police officer was the third incident reported in the area within the month..

Recall that a woman was also beheaded near the banking layout in Uyo, and another lady was slain on Sunday night, her dismembered body stuffed into a Ghana-Must-Go bag and abandoned by the roadside in the state’s Nwaniba district.

When contacted, state Police Public Relations Officer Odiko Mac-Don confirmed the event and termed it as unfortunate.

Mac-Don stated that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered a discreet probe into the inspector’s death.

He stressed that no effort would be spared to capture the offenders.

“We have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation. Already, the Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements.

“We are not deterred by the incident but we are committed to ensuring that, criminally minded persons will account for their actions,” Macdon said.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno has read riot acts to criminals in the state warning that no criminal should test the resolve of his administration on security matters.

Eno, made this known at a gala night for service commanders who have been transferred from the state, and the newly promoted Military Generals from Akwa Ibom state.

“If criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a place for them to hibernate, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those ones living among us…we will come after you and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you”, he added.
