Barely two days after five worshippers were killed and 20 others abducted from the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) church in Aaaa-Kiri during a church service, no fewer than five construction workers have been abducted by gunmen.
The victims, comprising two engineers, two labourers and a driver, were forcibly taken by the assailants while working on an ongoing construction project before the attackers escaped into nearby bushes.
It was gathered that the abducted workers were staff of a contracting firm handling road construction along the Sabaja–Owa-Onire axis of the state.
According to a report made to security agents around 4:30 p.m. by the manager of Fix Contracting Engineering Company, Suleiman Olanrewaju, the victims were identified as Ademola Afolabi, Umar Lade, Fatai, Akin and Yusuf.
Olanrewaju, the complainant, said he first alerted the military before notifying the police, adding that the abduction occurred in the twinkle of an eye.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Oreke swiftly mobilised operatives who, alongside military personnel and local vigilantes, combed the surrounding bushes in an effort to rescue the victims and apprehend the gunmen.
