Gunmen abduct eight residents in Plateau

A gang of gunmen has kidnapped eight people following an attach in a Plateau State community.

The terrorists ambushed a vehicle conveying 10 individuals who were said to be charcoal burners and took them away causing frightening atmosphere in families of their families and community at large.

According to reports, two of the victims, residents in Nyalun community of Bashar District, Wase Local Government, were released to relay the ransom demand to their families.

Following the incident which happened yesterday, a youth leader in the area, Shapi Sambo, identified the abducteees as: Hassan Sa’idu, Shamsudden Abubakar, Usamatu Yakubu, Dayyabu Usman Waziri, Inkilulu Dauda, Ado Sambo, Sule Dahiru and Umar Amadu and said, “The victims were returning around 7:30 pm when the perpetrators suddenly stopped their vehicle loaded with charcoal and took them away.

“It is a shocking incident because the victims were struggling to make ends meet when this happened,”Sambo said.

He added that the kidnappers were believed to have taken the victims into the Kukawa bush, a known hideout for criminal group, uttering that One of the two persons released, Mummuni Musa, said that the victims were tied up before he and another person were freed to deliver the ransom message.

The mishap comes about two weeks after an incident of gunmen killing soldiers and vigilantes in Kanam Local Government Area.

Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
