Guardiola sets League Cup record after beating Arsenal

Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola, has become the gaffer with the most won trophies in the history of the English League Cup.

Guardiola archived the feat following his side’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal, his fifth time success, more than any other manager in the competition which was inaugurated in 1961.

A four-minute second half double by Nico O’Reily at the Wembley Stadium on Sunday was enough for the Spanish coach to record his numbers after winning the trophy four times on the bounce during seasons 2017-18, 2018–19, 2019–20 as well as 2020–21.

The Spanish tactician is now ahead of other iconic names in Brian Clough, Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho, all winning the title four times each.

In total, he has won 29 of his 39 games in the tournament, scoring 83 times and conceding 26 goals.

The victory also makes it the ninth the Etihad outfit club has won the trophy, only behind Liverpool on 10.
