French footballer, Antoine Griezmann, has signed a deal to leave La Liga club, Atletico Madrid, for MLS side, Orlando City.
Griezmann penned a two-year contract to join Orlando City at the end of the season in a deal which could extend for more campaigns, as disclosed by both clubs.
The MLS club, following the completion of the deal on Tuesday, disclosed that the Gallic figure traveled to North America to finalise the deal, adding that the striker’s experience will boost the team’s chances of achieving it’s targets next season.
“He is one of the most gifted, accomplished and influential players of his generation,” said the American club owner, Mark Wilf.
“His decision to choose Orlando City reflects the mission and culture of our club. Our focus is on consistently building a championship-caliber roster every year, and adding a world-class player like Antoine reinforces that commitment and our belief in what the club can achieve,” Wilf added.
The Atletico Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer said, “I’m excited to embark on this new chapter of my career with Orlando City.
“From my very first discussions with the club, I sensed a strong ambition and a clear vision for the future, which really impressed me.”
Griezmann, who has has netted 211 times in 488 matches for Rojiblancos after joining the side in 2014 from Real Sociedad will be hoping to sign off in style and cap his 10th season as a player for the club with a second major trophy at the Wanda Metropolitano after the 2018 Europa League.
The former Barcelona player, who has scored 13 goals in 43 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side this season retired from international football in 2024 after scoring 44 goals in 137 caps for Les Bleus as well as winning the World Cup with in 2018.
Orlando, who have played in MLS since 2015, have never won the MLS Cup and have lost four of their first five games of the 2026 season, while Atletico sit fourth in La Liga this term, but are comfortably placed to qualify for next season’s Champions League with a 13-point lead over fifth-placed Real Betis.
