Gov. Kefas releases N300m for Islamic worship centres in Taraba

Governor Agbu Kefas has released N300 million to support the construction of new mosques in Taraba State, fulfilling his promise to promote religious harmony and ease community tensions.

The intervention targets three Islamic sects in Donga Local Government Area, addressing disputes over the ownership and control of the Donga Central Mosque, which had previously raised concerns within the community.

Members of Izala Jos, Izala Kaduna, Darika, and the Muslim Council had been involved in disagreements that attracted attention from both residents and security agencies.

At the height of the conflict, Governor Kefas personally visited Donga, assuring stakeholders that his administration would take measures to restore peace and strengthen unity among the Muslim faithful.

“Our goal is to ensure every group has a place of worship while promoting harmony in the community,” he said during the visit.

To honor this commitment, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Godfrey Dame, presented cheques totaling N300 million to representatives of the three sects, as confirmed by the Commissioner of Information and Reorientation, Zianab Jalingo, on Wednesday.

Each group received N100 million to commence construction on their respective mosques, with Jalingo emphasizing that the administration’s swift action reflects its dedication to religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and equitable development across Taraba State.

“Governor Kefas is committed to responsive leadership that safeguards unity and fosters community cohesion,” she said.

In appreciation, community leaders praised the gesture, describing it as timely and commendable. They noted that the initiative is expected to reduce tensions, enhance mutual understanding, and prevent further disputes among the Muslim population in Donga.
