The Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed clashes between rival communities, aiming to halt escalating tensions and prevent further loss of lives and property.
To enforce the curfew, Fintiri directed security agencies to maintain order and warned that any individual or group found instigating violence, in breach of lasting peace, would face the full wrath of the law.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Hussaini Hammangabdo, the directive was described as part of the government’s efforts to restore law, order, and public confidence amid fears of a prolonged crisis that could lead to further loss of life and destruction of property.
According to the State Government, safeguarding lives remains the top priority while ensuring stability and peace in the warring communities.
Residents have also been advised to remain indoors and avoid movement during the curfew period.
“The safety of every citizen is paramount. We urge the people to cooperate with security operatives as they carry out their duties,” the statement added.
The government further assured that measures are ongoing to prevent a resurgence of violence and to broker dialogue among the feuding groups.
