The Ghana Air Safety Electronics Association, GHATSEA, has threatened to embark on an indefinite strike over occurrences of disregard to labour rights suffered by its workers.
GHATSEA informed that it is set to begin the action, billed to commence on October 30, if necessary measures are not taken to curb the unfair treatment of salary disparities and poor job placement, to mention few, aimed at association by the country’s Civil Aviation Authority, GCAA.
President of the association, David Mensah, stated that the workers who have been saddled with the responsibility of maintaining communication, navigation and surveillance systems that ensures flight safety, have endured 15 years of unresolved grievances relating to salary breaches and other welfare issues which has affected the nature of work input by its members.
“Our patience has been stretched beyond measure,” Mensah mentioned on Wednesday.
“The silence and inaction on issues that directly affect the morale, motivation and welfare of key technical professionals have left us deeply dissatisfied, demoralized and disrespected.”
A statement by the group disclosed that once the strike begins, the availability and reliability of safety measures at international airports in the country will not be guaranteed, thus, rendering both local and international flights unsafe.
“Effective 30th October 2025, GHATSEA will commence an indefinite industrial action in accordance with Section 160 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) until all outstanding matters are satisfactorily resolved,” the statement reads in extracts.
