A young woman identified as Karen Lojore reportedly lost her life during a stampede at a concert headlined by Nigerian Afrobeats star Asake at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital.
The woman, said to be in her mid-20s and the only daughter of her parents, was pronounced dead by medical personnel at Nairobi West Hospital, where she was rushed after on-site paramedics carried out emergency resuscitation efforts.
According to HapaKenya, Lojore was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, despite efforts by emergency responders to revive her following the stampede, which occurred over the weekend.
Eyewitnesses said the event, organised by Tukutane Entertainment, was marred by poor ticketing arrangements, leading to severe congestion at the stadium’s entry points.
It was learned that Karen was trampled during the chaos, while several others sustained varying degrees of injury as they attempted to gain access to the venue.
Videos shared online showed people pushing and struggling to move through the crowd, with some attendees assisting those who had fallen.
Confirming the tragic death, a woman believed to be the deceased’s mother, in a post shared on her social media handle @ami_brit on Monday, questioned the circumstances surrounding her daughter’s demise and demanded justice.
She wrote: “Karen, why? What happened? You had that ticket—what happened to my child? Why her? Who is going to answer my questions? I want justice for my child. Please bring my child back to me.”
Meanwhile, fans and close associates mourned Karen’s death, expressing grief and calling on event organisers to implement stronger safety measures at future shows.
