The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has issued a directive to constructive firms to always install signs at construction sites as part of measures to avert road mishaps.
The FRSC stated that it has imposed the directive on the firms disclosing that the the measure is aimed at overhauling Nigeria’s road network through extensive construction and rehabilitation projects, and also aimed at protecting motorists and road users move around areas where construction activities are taking place.
The body disclosed that it has instructed building companies to install, maintain, and continuously update proper signage at all active or inactive construction sites, without exception, adding that it’s Officers have been directed to enforce the directive strictly
FRSC, issued a statement on Monday, stating that any company found not heeding to the directive will be prosecuted. It added, “This directive is to ensure the safety of the motoring public around construction sites.
“Companies failing to comply place motorists and other road users at serious risk The directive is final and enforceable and any violator of the directive would face decisive regulatory actions.”
The FRSC has long raised concerns on missing diversion signs, poor lighting at night, illegal U-turns near worksites, and deep potholes, all of which pose serious hazards to motorists.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said that the agency is commited to ensuring that at the Federal Government’s investment in road infrastructure results in safer, more secure journeys for all road users.”
