Four passengers escape death during accident in Lagos

No fewer than four passengers were reported to have escaped death when a 40-feet containerized truck fell on a vehicle at Abalti Barracks in Surulere Local Government, Lagos State.

The four occupants of the vehicle with number plate KRD-822FX were said to be two males and two females that were rescued after being trapped.

As gathered, the containerised truck fell sideway along Abalti barracks inward Stadium axis of the council on Sunday at about 6:35p.m after developing mechanical fault on the road.

Speaking on the rescue operations, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Director-General Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that the trapped passengers were extricated from the vehicle.

According to him, upon arrival of emergency officials at the scene of the incident, a 40ft containerized truck fell sideways on a grey Toyota car.

“Four people were trapped inside the car. The quick response of the Agency’s team culminated into the rescue of four people inside the car.
“The Agency’s heavy duty equipment Forklift and others were used at the incident scene alongside support of officials from Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police Force and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure that the passengers escape death.
“All the accident victims have all been successfully recovered from inside the car alive and are presently being given Pre-Hospital care inside the ambulance”, he added.

The emergency expert disclosed that after the rescue, the containerised truck and other activities that could further cause impediment for commuters have been removed from the road.
