Former Cross River Gov. parts ways with PDP

By Asuquo Cletus

The former Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after nearly 30 years of membership.

He attributed his decision to prolonged internal challenges within the party, which, he said, had made it difficult for him to continue contributing effectively to the organisation and serving the people through its platform.

Imoke announced his resignation in a letter dated March 2, 2026, addressed to the party’s ward chairman in Itigidi Council Ward, Abi Local Government Area of the state.

A founding member of the PDP since 1998, Imoke explained that the protracted crisis within the party influenced his decision, noting that it had hindered his ability to serve both the party and the public effectively.

He expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him to serve the country and the state in various capacities.

During his political career, Imoke served as Presidential Special Adviser, Minister in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and Governor of Cross River State from 2007 to 2015.

He thanked party members and supporters for their support over the years and wished the PDP success in its future endeavours.
