The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has shut down a quarry operated by Dai Jin Jia Investment Limited following widespread complaints about repeated blasting that reportedly endangered lives and property.
The enforcement action followed sustained protests from residents who accused the company of ignoring safety standards and environmental regulations.
The quarry, located in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (ACO Estate), was sealed on March 2, 2026, amid reports of unregulated detonations in the community.
NESREA cited multiple alleged breaches of regulations governing quarry operations, stating that the firm’s activities violated environmental laws applicable to such facilities in Nigeria.
It alleged that the blasting caused structural damage to nearby homes and was linked to the death of a young child, raising serious safety concerns for families in the area.
The agency also stated that the operator lacked the required permit and certification for its blasting plan, describing this as a major compliance failure.
NESREA reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental standards, warning that all facilities must comply with the law to protect the environment and the safety of residents.
