The Federal Government of Nigeria has promised to pay the accrued owed allowances of Super Eagles players and team officials at the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The FG informed that the regulatory stages for the payment have been passed, adding that the funds will be disbursed on or before Friday, 9th, January, a day before the quarter-final match involving the team and their Algerian counterpart.
In a statement issued by the Minister of State for Finance, Doris Anite, the government relayed that the payments would reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts.
The circular released on Thursday, notified that the delay was caused by a conversion process to move funds into foreign currency which Anite said the players preferred.
”The Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria have successfully streamlined the foreign exchange processing to ensure our players are rewarded without further delay,” the statement reads in part.
”Going forward, the process will be fully streamlined to ensure faster faster and more predictable disbursements aligned with international best practice,” it added.
The information is sequel to the player’s threat to boycott training and trip from their initial Fez base to Marakech for their clash against the Desert Warriors on Saturday if their bonuses for their wins over Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda in the group stage and Mozambique in the second round were not paid.
Winners of the Super Eagles’ battle with Algeria will face hosts, Morocco or Cameroon in the next knockout stage.
