In light of renewed violent attacks by Boko Haram in Borno State, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to deploying all necessary resources to combat the growing insecurity in the state.
Minister of Defense Abubakar Badaru emphasized that the Federal Government would not allow the recent violence to erode the substantial progress made in securing the region after years of fighting Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
“The President has mandated us to ensure that every necessary resource is made available to halt this alarming trend,” Badaru stated.
This assurance came from the Minister during a high-level visit to Maiduguri on Friday where he was accompanied by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and other senior military officials.
The delegation’s visit followed a directive from President Bola Tinubu to assess the situation and initiate swift responses after Governor Zulum raised alarm about the resurgence of Boko Haram activities in the state.
“This high-powered team is here on the President’s orders,” Badaru said while meeting with Governor Babagana Zulum. “Our assignment is to identify whatever is needed, be it manpower, logistics, or equipment, to tackle this renewed threat.”
Badaru, on behalf of the Federal government,, acknowledged that the rise in attacks posed a threat to the safe return and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons, underlining the importance of reinforcing the region’s security framework.
However, to enhance government response, the defence minister disclosed that daily reports from the North East would now be sent directly to President Tinubu.
Meanwhile, welcoming the delegation, Governor Zulum expressed confidence that the visit would reenergize efforts to tackle insecurity while commending the Federal Government’s proactive stance and pledging unwavering support to military operations.
“This visit gives us renewed hope. With stronger cooperation and resilience, we can overcome these emerging challenges,” Zulum stated.
He further called for continued synergy between political leaders and the military to preserve the hard-won peace and development in Borno, “We must not allow our achievements to be reversed,” he concluded.
