The Federal Government has launched a digital platform, PICOMS (Procurement Compliance Monitoring System), aimed at ending delays in procurement processes across Nigeria’s education sector.
The Honourable Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, CON, announced the initiative during a training session for procurement officers at the National Universities Commission Auditorium in Abuja.
According to Alausa, delays in procurement processes have slowed the implementation of key education projects due to issues such as incomplete documentation, weak submissions, and procedural lapses.
To tackle these issues, PICOMS will digitize procurement processes, track submissions in real time, and reduce approval timelines for the Ministry, its agencies, commissions, parastatals, and tertiary institutions.
Alausa explained that strengthening procurement compliance is essential to ensure that education projects are delivered efficiently and that public resources are properly managed.
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement, Adebowale Adedokun, noted that recurring problems like weak submissions and incomplete documents have contributed to delays.
The Ministry emphasized that the platform reflects the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and timely delivery of education projects, ensuring public resources are properly managed.
With the launch of PICOMS, the ministry noted that the system will speed up project approvals, strengthen compliance, and improve overall efficiency in the education sector.
