FG blames bank glitch for workers’ salary delay

The Federal Government has attributed the delay in the June 2025 salary payments for some of its employees to a technical glitch involving a commercial bank.

While the delay has affected many civil servants, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa, said the disruption specifically affected civil servants whose salary accounts are domiciled with Zenith Bank.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that the salary payments for employees across various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were affected due to a technical network glitch in the bank,” Mokwa said in a statement issued on Friday.

He acknowledged the frustration among public servants and apologised for the inconvenience caused by the delay.

“We understand the anxiety and frustration this situation has caused, particularly given the importance of timely salary payments to the livelihoods and responsibilities of our valued public servants,” he stated.

According to Mokwa, the OAGF is actively working with relevant stakeholders and service providers to ensure that all affected transactions are reprocessed as quickly as possible.

“We appeal to all affected staff of the federal public service to remain calm and rest assured that no effort will be spared in ensuring everyone receives their rightful salaries,” he assured.
