FG bans Ministers, other officials from foreign trips amid coronavirus outbreak

The Federal Government has barred all government officials, including ministers, public and civil servants, from travelling abroad, to prevent an increase in the spread of coronavirus in the country.

The Presidential Task Force on Coronavirus announced the decision after its inaugural meeting which was held behind closed-door in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chairman of the committee, Boss Mustapha, while announcing the directives, stressed that the ban commenced immediately till further notice.

“It has become necessary that the Federal Government has barred all forms of travel outside the country for whatever reasons whether for a seminar, meetings and others, till further notice.

“We want to advise Nigerians to cancel all trips abroad. this is necessary because travelling to seriously affected countries. We are urging Nigerians coming back from outside the country to engage in self-quarantine,” he added.

The SGF, however, hinted that the government was completely in support of all measures adopted by all other countries to prevent the spread of the virus globally.

“We want to urge Nigerians to embrace proper hygiene to prevent them from contracting the virus. We all should consider social distance measures because it also helps to curtail the virus spread”.
