The Federal Government has approved $1.9 billion for construction of a rail line that would link Nigeria to the Niger Republic among other road projects across the country.
As stated, the proposed rail line was expected to run from Kano-Dutse-Katsina-Jibia and to Maradi in Niger Republic.
The approval was given at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said that the approved $1.9 billion for the rail line project was inclusive of Value Added Tax.
According to him, the council also approved the award of a contract worth N3.049 billion for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, and commissioning of one railway crane for the purposes of clearing rail tracks in situations of accidents.
