The Federal Government has inaugurated principal officers for newly established federal tertiary institutions as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s higher education system and promote innovation across the sector.
The inauguration was performed by the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, who also inaugurated the leadership of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), stressing the need for improved governance and high academic standards in teacher education.
The event took place on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja, where the minister formally presented appointments to the leadership teams of the Federal University of Science and Technology Epe in Epe and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic Abuja.
Alausa said the move reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality tertiary education, strengthening teacher education, and positioning Nigerian institutions as centres of innovation and research.
He explained that the institutions were strategically established to address both national and global challenges such as food security, climate change, renewable energy, and technological innovation.
The minister also urged the leadership of the NCCE to enhance governance across colleges of education and promote high academic standards within Nigeria’s teacher education system.
The Federal Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening institutional leadership, improving governance frameworks, and implementing policies aimed at enhancing the quality and global competitiveness of Nigeria’s tertiary education sector.
