The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, Mr. John Gabaya, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major political realignment in the council.
Gabaya, elected on the PDP platform in 2019 and currently serving his second and final term, announced the decision in a formal statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.
The defection is aimed at boosting council development through stronger federal partnerships and strategically positioning himself for the 2027 general elections, where he intends to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency.
In the statement, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ernest Agada, Gabaya emphasized that joining the APC would enhance his ability to deliver developmental projects to the people of Bwari through improved access to federal resources and support.
Political analysts describe the move as a calculated step to strengthen Gabaya’s chances in the 2027 National Assembly race, particularly as the ruling APC continues to consolidate power in the FCT.
No immediate reaction has been received from the PDP leadership in the FCT regarding Gabaya’s defection.
