A Lagos young woman, Raheem Remilekun Enitan, has been declared missing following an alleged attack by unknown assailants who were suspected to be politically motivated in the state.
The incident, which occurred days after the tense Presidential and National Assembly elections, has further raised concerns over citizen security and political violence that had accompanied the electoral season in the state.
According to family sources, Remilekun was last seen on March 22, 2023, after she left her residence at 1 Ajanleloko Street, Sabo, Yaba, to run an errand for relatives.
As gathered, she was said to have been attacked along the Yaba council secretariat, sustaining severe injuries.
According to Remilekun’s distraught mother, Abosede Raheem, she received reports the following day that her daughter had been beaten and taken away by unknown men.
“We reported the matter immediately at the Ikeja Police Station, and an affidavit of missing person has been sworn at the Lagos High Court,” Abosede confirmed.
She said that since the day of the incident, no one has known her daughter’s whereabouts, appealing to the law enforcement agency to help reunite her with the missing lady.
A witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “Remilekun is a known figure in the community for her active social involvement. She reportedly expressed concerns in the days leading up to her disappearance, disclosing that she had been receiving strange calls and threats.”
He added that the community and her family believed that she may have been assaulted owing to her perceived political leanings in the highly charged political climate.
According to him, the incident has been escalated to the Ikeja Police Command, and investigations were said to have commenced.
The family has appealed to the state government, security agencies, eyewitnesses, and members of the public to come forward with any useful information that could lead to Remilekun’s whereabouts or shed light on the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
