English footballer, Jamie Vardy, has won the Serie A Player of the Month award for November.
Vardy, who plies trade with newly promoted Cremonese, won the accolade having pulled more votes than other nominees: Mike Maignan, goalkeeper of AC Milan, Lautaro Martinez od Inter Milan, Napoli forward, David Neres, Leo Ostogard of Genoa and Udinese post player, Nicolo Zaniolo.
The 38-year-old, who became the first Englishman to win the prize since it’s inception in 2019, played three matches in the Italian top flight during the duration and scored one goal against Juventus.
The league Chief Executive, Luigi de Siervo, said that, “Vardy is truly a player from another era.”
“His arrival at Cremonese was greeted with great enthusiasm by all Serie A fans, and Vardy is repaying them with top-level performances, innate leadership and important goals, the result of the competitive spirit and shooting skills that have always distinguished him.”
In total, Vardy has scored four goals in 10 appearances for promoted Cremonese, who are ninth in Serie A.
The forward who turns 39 next month, has played 90 minutes in all of Cremonese’s last eight games and has scored four goals in ten games.
He has become just the second player in Serie A history to bag more than three for a promoted team at the age of 38 or over.
He follows in the footsteps of Chelsea icon Gianfranco Zola, who left Stamford Bridge for second-division Cagliari, helped seal promotion, and then scored nine times in 2004/05 before retiring.
