The management of English League One club, Barnsley, has terminated the contract of Super Eagles midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali, for arriving late for the club’s pre-season engagements.
Nwakali’s contract was terminated barely one year after joining the club following Portuguese club refusal to renew his contract.
The Head coach of the club, Conor Hourihane, confirmed that Nigeria international midfielder is free to leave the club before the close of the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Nigerian was banished from training with the first team after resuming late for pre season from his holiday in Nigeria.
A situation which saw him omitted from the squad in games against Plymouth Argyle, Burton Albion, Fleetwood Town and Bolton Wanderers respectively.
Speaking ahead of the game against Peterborough United the coach confirmed that Nwakali who was sacked for a similar offence by Spanish side, Huesca, isn’t a part of his plans for the season.
He said the idea is to move him on before the close of the transfer window. “Obviously there’s a couple of weeks to go in the window. Let’s see where it takes us,” he explained and when asked about allowing Nwakali leave, he didn’t mince words with his reply “Yes, that’s the plan.”
However it wouldn’t be a straightforward idea with two more years to go on the contract of Nwakali, who appeared in 26 game in all competitions for the club last season.
