Eight policemen injure in Borno auto crash

Eight police officers have sustained varying degrees of injuries following an auto crash which ensued while on patrol operation.

The policemen became alongside others became injured casualties after a Toyota Hilux patrol van conveying the enforcement officers has a head-on collision with a moving vehicle, after which emergency rescuers stormed the scene to provide held for the survivors.

Passengers of the other vehicle, eight of them were also injured alongside the policemen who were escorting electoral materials and officials of the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission.

The security agency stated that the crash occurred on Sunday at Musene village in Ngala Local Government in Borno State and added,“The collision was largely caused by poor visibility as heavy dust covered the road at the time,”

Reports state that one of the victims was an immigration officer, whose identity was not disclosed.

Following the incident, the Force mobilised officers from the Motor Traffic Department to the scene after which photographs were taken, measurements recorded, and the area was secured to prevent further incidents.

All injured victims were later evacuated to the General Hospital in Ngala for medical attention. Medical personnel confirmed that those affected were responding to treatment.

Borno police authorities said an investigation had been opened to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crash and prevent a recurrence.
