EFCC arrest three Borno men for naira mutilation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested three suspects in Borno State over alleged offence of Naira mutilation.

The EFCC disclosed that the accused duo, Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad and Bashir Musa, are in custody for using N500 notes as tissue paper, using it to clean mucus their noses and recording the act in a video which has gone viral.

According to a statement issued by the Commission’s Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Thursday, the trio, who are in the Maiduguri detention facility, amid ongoing investigation in the matter, contravene the EFCC Act law, and would be charged to court upon completion of findings.

“The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested three individuals over alleged Naira mutilation,” reads the statement in bit.

“The suspects are: Adam Muhammad, Muhammad Muhammad and Bashir Musa. Adam, Muhammad and Musa were arrested following a viral video circulated on social media platforms where they were seen cleaning mucus from their nose using a N500 Naira note.

“Following the release of the video, the Commission traced the trio and arrested them in the Maiduguri metropolis area. The suspects are currently under investigation at the Maiduguri detention facility, while the investigation is ongoing. The suspects will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations, “the statement read.

Oyewale informed that the enforcement reflects the agency’s efforts to curb unlawful practices aimed at undermining the integrity of the Nigerian currency.
