DSS releases Kaduna cleric after public outcry

The Department of State Security, DSS, has released a Kaduna-based cleric and political figure, Sheikh Umar, from detention.

The DSS released Umar after a session of  questioning released the cleric who confirmed his freedom from the security agency.

The political figure who is associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), clarified that after his detention circulated widely online, he had been formally released by the agency’s operatives, adding that he cooperated fully with the DSS investigators before being allowed to leave.

“I want to make it clear that the reports claiming I was detained are not correct,” he said.

“I was only invited for questioning by the security agency. I cooperated with them fully and I was released afterwards. I am safe and in good condition,”he said.

He advised the residents in the state who are dissatisfied with the current political environment tonchannel their frustrations through democratic participation rather than public disorder.

The religious figure told the citizens to register and  participate in elections, and choose leaders who represent their aspirations.
