DSS arrests two arms dealers in Gombe

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two suspected arms dealers in Gombe State.

The DSS, during an operation targeting weapons trafficking in the area, intercepted a Toyota Corolla with registration number JAL475Y which had the suspects, Muhammed Mohammed, 55, and Sani Gesha, 47, who appeared to have contravened the state’s laws over the act.

During the arrests at Mararaban Tula in Kaltungo Local Government Area, the agency recovered two RPG warheads and a launcher, believed to be intended for armed groups operating in the region.

According to the DSS, the two arms dealers were intercepted following weeks of detailed intelligence work that tracked a network allegedly supplying weapons to criminal groups destabilising parts of the North-East.

Preliminary questioning reportedly revealed that the consignment was destined for an individual named Ardo Ari, allegedly based in Kukawa Village in Alkaleri area of Bauchi State.

In anyone related security development, DSS operatives also rescued a six-year-old boy in Gyada Village, Balanga Local Government Area.

The child had reportedly been abducted by the suspect, Salisu Hussain, under the pretext of teaching him how to to ride a motorcycle.

Hussain was tracked and arrested, and the boy was safely reunited with his parents.

All suspects remain in custody and are expected to be arraigned once investigations are completed.
