Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has named the access road leading to his multi-billion dollar refinery project in Lekki, Lagos, after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in recognition of his pivotal role in the area’s development.
Dangote said the gesture was to honor Tinubu’s vision and support for industrialization, particularly his role in laying the foundation for the Lekki Free Trade Zone during his tenure as Lagos State governor.
The industrialist made the announcement on Thursday during the President’s first visit to the Refinery, where he also inspected key infrastructure projects in the region.
The road, formerly known as the Dangote Refinery Access Road, connects the petrochemical plant to the Lekki Deep Sea Port, the Free Trade Zone, and other strategic national assets.
Speaking at the event, Dangote said the naming was in recognition of President Tinubu’s leadership and support for industrial development in Nigeria.
He also revealed that the Dangote Group is investing over N900 billion in road infrastructure under the Federal Government’s tax credit scheme — despite paying N450 billion in taxes last year.
“Today, we are proud to honour President Tinubu for his unwavering support by naming this critical road after him. It is a symbol of our appreciation and commitment to national development,” Dangote said.
During the visit, Tinubu also commissioned the Lekki Deep Sea Port concrete road, flagged off Section 2 of the Lagos-Calabar Superhighway, and launched the 25-kilometre 7th Axial Road linking the port, the refinery, and the Free Trade Zone to the Sagamu–Benin Expressway via Ijebu Ode.
These projects are expected to significantly boost logistics, trade, and industrial activities across the South-West and South-South corridors.
