Customs intercepts over N181m petroleum products in 8wks

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has confiscated petroleum products valued at ₦181.6 million under “Operation Whirlwind” during an eight-week crackdown on smuggling along the Nigeria–Cameroon borders.

According to reports, the seizures were made across several smuggling hotspots in Adamawa State through 55 coordinated operations.

The National Coordinator of the operation, Kolapo Oladeji, announced this yesterday at a press briefing in Yola, the capital of Adamawa State.

He explained that the crackdown is part of the federal government’s efforts to ensure energy security, prevent fuel diversion, and protect national resources from illegal activities.

Oladeji added that the confiscated products will soon be publicly auctioned to reclaim resources and ensure domestic fuel availability.

The NCS boss emphasised that Operation Whirlwind has intensified border checkpoints and patrols to curb cross-border smuggling and safeguard Nigeria’s economic interests.

He also warned those involved in the illicit petroleum trade to desist, urging local communities and stakeholders to support customs enforcement activities.
