The Cross Rivers State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture Abubakar Ewa has been confirmed dead after a brief illness.
Ewa was pronounced dead by medical experts a few hours after he was admitted at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar.
As gathered, the Commissioner had attended the State Executive Council meeting earlier that day, presided over by Governor Bassey Otu.
It was learnt that he was rushed to the hospital by his family hours after returning from an official meeting, where he was pronounced dead by health practitioners.
Members of the State Executive Council, alongside other aides to Governor Otu, gathered at the hospital to console Ewa’s family and pay their respects.
The announcement of his death on Thursday came as a devastating blow to the public as the late commissioner was a prominent figure in Cross River’s political and administrative landscape.
Ewa had previously served as Secretary and Chairman of the Boki Local Government Council, Special Adviser on Community Relations, and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force.
