The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, has disbursed a total of N10 million as bursary support to 100 students from Ikom Local Government Area of the state.
The initiative, the Speaker said, was aimed at easing the financial burden on students and their families while promoting access to education.
The bursary presentation ceremony was held on Yesterday at Ayambem’s country home in Nde community, Ikom LGA, and was attended by students, parents, community leaders and party stakeholders.
Speaking at the event through his Chief of Staff, Anakan Ndoma, Ayambem said the bursary scheme was a deliberate intervention to support education and empower young people in the constituency.
He said, “This bursary scheme is a deliberate effort to ease the financial burden on students and their families. It is meant to encourage academic excellence and ensure that no brilliant student is forced to abandon his or her education due to financial challenges.”
The Speaker urged the beneficiaries to remain focused, disciplined and committed to their studies, stressing that the investment in education was critical to the future development of Ikom Local Government Area and Cross River State.
“Education remains one of the most powerful tools for development, and this intervention is an investment in the future of our people,” he added.
Chairman of the occasion, Asinya Ntan, commended the Speaker for what he described as consistent support for education and human capital development in the area.
According to Ntan, “This initiative goes beyond politics. It shows a leader who understands that investing in education is investing in the future of the society. The Speaker has once again demonstrated responsive and people-oriented leadership.”
Also speaking, the President of the National Association of Ikom Students Worldwide, Atep Godiva, expressed appreciation to the Speaker on behalf of the beneficiaries, describing the bursary as timely and impactful.
He said, “At a time when the cost of education keeps rising, this bursary will go a long way in helping students meet their academic needs. We are grateful to the Speaker for prioritising the welfare and future of Ikom students.”
