Cross River CP hits ground running, deploys crime prevention strategy

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, Olusegun Eyitayo, has assumed office, pledging to enhance security across the state and combat crime in all its forms.

Omosanyin emphasized that under his watch, the command would be committed to proactive policing, community engagement, and strategic crime-fighting initiatives across the state.

Speaking during a brief handover ceremony at the State Police Headquarters in Calabar, the police boss assured residents that the police force under his leadership would be more responsive and dedicated to maintaining peace and order.

“I am fully aware of the security challenges facing the state, and I assure the good people of Cross River that we will work tirelessly to protect lives and property. We will intensify our efforts in crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and collaboration with other security agencies,” he stated.

The new Commissioner further called on community leaders, stakeholders, and the general public to cooperate with the police by providing credible information that would aid in tackling criminal activities. He also warned criminals and those planning to disrupt the peace of the state to desist, as the police force would not tolerate lawlessness.

He has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Tactical Commanders to ensure the safety and security of residents. Additionally, the Command has put in place strategic plans to clamp down on any elements attempting to cause unrest in the state.

Omosanyin, who took over from Augustine Grimah after his promotion to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and redeployed to Zone 10 Headquarters, Sokoto State, reiterated his commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the protection of human rights, ensuring that law enforcement is conducted in a fair and just manner.

The CP was enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical & Health Education from the University of Ibadan (1987), a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2008), and a Master’s Degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the National Defence Academy, Kaduna (2024).
