Cross River begins enforcement on commercial bus approve colour

By Asuquo Cletus

The Cross River State Government has commenced enforcement of its approved colour scheme for commercial buses as part of efforts to regulate public transportation in the state.

The government has cautioned commercial vehicle operators to comply strictly with the use of the officially approved state colours, warning that defaulters will face sanctions as enforcement begins on January 31, 2026.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ministry of Transportation and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Ene Cobham, following the state government’s resolve to sanitise the transport sector and strengthen public safety.

According to the ministry, the order applies to all categories of commercial vehicles, transport unions and other stakeholders operating within the state, stressing that the government will no longer tolerate the use or re-introduction of off-colour vehicles.

The ministry noted that the adoption of approved colours, alongside a mandatory security number system, is aimed at promoting uniformity, improving regulation and enhancing security within the transport sector.

It added that the policy would help safeguard lives and property, curb criminal activities involving commercial vehicles and align with the state government’s vision of a clean, safe and well-regulated transportation system.

“The ministry does not recognise the re-introduction of off-colours or any deviation from the approved state colours,” the statement said, adding that appropriate sanctions would be imposed on operators who fail to comply with the directive.

It urged commercial vehicle operators to regularise their vehicles and cooperate with relevant authorities ahead of the enforcement date to avoid penalties.
