To restore peace in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos, the State’s High Court sitting in Ikeja, has restrained a prince, Olasukunmi Lawal, from parading himself as the monarch-elect for Isheri kingdom pending the outcome of suits before it.

The court ruled that the installation of Lawal as the monarch-elect for Isheri was conducted in contempt and should stop presenting himself to Lagosians particularly Isheri residents as the Oba-elect for the kingdom.

Meanwhile, elders and residents of the kingdom have urged the Lagos State Government to seek consultation on pending court cases before identifying with Lawal as the preferred candidate for the Isheri stool.

In the court document sighted yesterday, Justice A.M Lamidi ruled on the monarch tussle following the suit brought before the court by Adeniyi Lamidi, Moruf Adeniyi and Jayeola Adeniyi.

The 12 defendants in the include Olasukunmi Lawal, Fasasi Balogun, Saheed Adebiyi, Kolawole Ogundeyi, Idowu Erinfolami, Lateef Abogunloko, Ekundayo Abogunloko, and Wasiu Ogundeyi.

Others were the Executives chairman Egbe idimu, Chieftency Committee in Alimosho, Lagos state Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, and the Lagos State Governor.

Stopping Lawal from calling or parading himself as the monarch-epect, the court maintained that since the installation of Lawal as the monarch-elect was not in accordance with the Chieftaincy Declaration of August 24 ,1983, the exercise remain void.

The Chieftaincy Declaration of August 24 ,1983 required an Ifa priest to play vital role in the declaration of monarch for the kingdom; a criteria that was allegedly ignored.

After the ruling, counsel to the claimants, D.m Oguntade, commended the court for the ruling, stating that the court has restored peace to the kingdom.

“it is abnormal for an institution to go ahead and install a king when the matter is still in the court of jurisdiction , also it will be out of law for a system to just embark on the a process with consultation.

“We gotten our injunction from the court as a law abiding citizen to secure a stay that have being granted , we are not move but calm as we wait for the previous judgement, also their lawyer was in court as he is served”, he added.
