Court stops Ekiti PDP from conducting state congress

A Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has ordered an immediate halt to the planned Ekiti chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Congress, pending the determination of a substantive suit before it.

The court directed all parties involved in the internal leadership dispute to maintain the status quo, effectively putting the congress on hold.

In a ruling delivered yesterday, the court also adjourned further hearing on the matter to May 22, 2025, to allow for proper deliberation on the issues raised.

The injunction follows a suit filed by aggrieved party members challenging the procedures and eligibility criteria set by the party leadership ahead of the congress.

The decision has sparked mixed reactions within the party, with some members welcoming the intervention as a step towards internal justice, while others expressed concern over its possible implications for the party’s unity ahead of upcoming elections.

Party stakeholders are now expected to return to the negotiation table to resolve the crisis, even as legal proceedings continue.
