A State High Court sitting in Onitsha, Anambra State, has remanded two young men in a correctional centre over the murder of their employer and the alleged theft of his money.
The duo, 21-year-old Chiemerie Anieke and 21-year-old Godwin Nwokoro, were remanded following their arraignment by the Anambra Police Command in connection with the murder of Ikechukwu Nwite.
According to the prosecution, Anieke allegedly used a pestle to strike his employer, Nwite, on the head, resulting in his death, and is also linked to an earlier attack on Ogechukwu Nwite at Fegge, Onitsha.
Anieke was said to have been assisted by Nwokoro, who provided a bank account through which over ₦8 million belonging to the deceased was fraudulently transferred.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, on Wednesday, the operatives recovered the sum of Six Million Naira from the suspects, being part of the stolen funds, which has been tendered as exhibit in the ongoing court proceedings.
Ikenga added that the suspects have since been remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further proceedings in the matter.
The command further reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and warns individuals against engaging in criminal activities, noting that the long arm of the law will always catch up with offenders.
