Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta following his arraignment on charges of assault and obstruction of government officials.
Portable was granted bail with other conditions after pleading not guilty to all the charges levied against him by the court.
The arraignment came barely 24 hours after the singer, who had been declared wanted by the Ogun State Command, surrendered himself to the police.
Portable faced a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, restriction, being armed with cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause harm.
His counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, pleaded for bail, stating that the singer is now remorseful and has learnt his lessons.
Magistrate O. L. Oke granted Portable bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until March 5 for trial.
Nine of his aides were also arraigned on similar charges, including felony, assault, obstruction, and conduct likely to breach public peace.
The charges stem from a February 5, 2025, incident where Portable and his associates allegedly attacked three town planners; Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, while they were performing their official duties at Odogwu Bar, owned by the singer, in the Sango area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Government had earlier condemned Portable’s alleged actions, describing him as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal.”
