A 28-year-old serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nwokedi Gerald, has been reported dead after his lifeless body was found in his hostel in Bauchi.
It was learnt that Gerald, whose state code number is BA/25A/2069, was discovered by fellow corps members who had gone to remind him of a church gathering.
Although the exact cause of death is yet to be known, the corps members revealed that the young man was found unresponsive after several attempts to wake him for the fellowship.
According to the corps members, concern grew when he failed to join others preparing for Sunday church service at their hostel, located in Dambam Local Government Area of the state.
Efforts to reach him reportedly yielded no response, prompting them to check his room, where he was found unconscious.
Gerald was confirmed dead on arrival at a General Hospital in Dambam by medical personnel, having been evacuated to the facility by operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command who responded to the incident.
Before he was taken to the hospital, a police source disclosed that there were no visible injuries or signs of violence on his body, suggesting no foul play.
“The circumstances point to a natural cause, but a full investigation is ongoing,” the source said.
Meanwhile, the 28-year-old’s remains have been moved to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Azare for preservation.
