Chad shuts Sudan border after soldiers, armed force clash

The Chad government has shut down activities at its border with Sudan following clashes involving its soldiers and Sudanese Paramilitary force involved in the civil war across the frontier.

The, on Monday, made the declaration of the new measure stating all movement of goods and people are suspended, adding that the decision is sequel to violations indulged in by some forces involved in the conflict in Sudan at its territory.

The government, on Monday, through its Communications Minister, Gassim Cherif, held that the move is in line with its keen interest to halt risks of the conflict spreading to its country, which could cause lots of mishap.

”The decision follows repeated incursions and violations committed by the forces involved in the conflict in Sudan on Chadian territory,” said Cherif.

The measure follows a three-year conflict between the forces which has led to the death of tens of thousands of people and forced 11 million people out of their homes.

The forces have also conducted several operations near the border and have killed at least nine soldiers in separate incidents since December.

Chad, in a statement, held that it has the right to retaliate against any aggression or violation of the shut border.
