Manchester United midfielder, Casemiro, has been announced as Premier League Player of the Week for MatchWeek 24.
The Brazilian, who recently announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season won the accolade following a held voting exercise held by fans, beating other seven nominees:Liverpool’s Hugo Etikite, Chelsea striker, Joao Pedro, Dominic Solanke, Xavi Simons of Tottenham, Sunderland’s Habib Diara, Brentford goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher, and Noni Madueke of Arsenal.
The midfielder won 51 percent of the votes beating his closest competitor, Etikite, who got 17, Pedro with seven, Simons, three, and Diara alongside Kelleher both amassing two percent.
Casemiro produced a superb performance in his side’s 3-2 win over Fulham at Old Trafford with an assist and goal helping the Mancunians leap into the top-four in league standings.
The midfielder broke the deadlock in the 19th minute, heading home from Bruno Fernandez’s free-kick before supplying a no-look pass to Matheus Cunha who smashed the ball into the net to ensure a 2-0 lead.
Beyond his goal contributions, the 33-year-old won five of the seven ground duels and won all air challenges he contested for. He also made three clearances and as many recoveries.
Following his announcement as the winner of the award on Wednesday, the Brazilian becomes the ninth Manchester United player to win the prize this season and the fourth consecutive win for the side following Benjamin Sesko in week 21, Fernandez in 22 and Patrick Dorgu in week 23.
Casemiro will look forward to continuing his fine form when the Red Devils face Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday.
