The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has raised alarm over several forces working assiduously to sabotage the country’s security, saying the Nigerian military will not relent until total control is gained against terrorism in Nigeria.
He listed the forces sabotaging Nigeria’s security to include external and internal, adding that the military high command will continue in its primary task of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation from either internal or external forces.
Buratai who reiterated the military commitment towards ridding Nigeria off terrorism, kidnappings, and banditry attacks, said gains being recorded by troops in Northeast and Northwest part of the region was a testament to the military efforts to restore normalcy in the country.
Speaking when he paid an operational visit to the troops deployed at Sector 2 Forward Operation Base, Zurmi in Zamfara State on Tuesday, the COAS charged the combined troops of the Armed Forces in Zamfara to ensure the bandits have no breathing space.
He said that the asymmetric nature of the ongoing war against banditry in the region required painstaking effort towards identifying the hideout of the criminals and flush them out.
Buratai also urged the troops to remain focused in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities, adding that there are forces bent on sabotaging their efforts.
“You must ensure that you remain focused and not be distracted as there are so many forces trying to sabotage the security of this country both internally and externally
“You must go deep inside the bush and pursue them until they are tactically defeated because we have what it takes to defeat them,” he said.
